Today, I’m going to take a look at the notes I wrote with a lot of googling and experience at the beginning of my career at the bio company where I work and write down basic knowledge about cell culture!

I am currently working for a bio company for 4 years. The department is an antibody engineering department related to cell culture!

Let me tell you first about the instruments and tools that you use when you’re culturing.

• Cell culture-related devices

1. Autoclave – Tools for sterilizing pipette tip, glass bottle, beaker, etc. at high temperature and high pressure, usually set to operate at 121℃ for 15 minutes.

For certain products, the sensor that checks the amount of water on the floor recognizes the conductivity of water, so in the case of distilled water, it is recognized as free of water and is used by adding tap water.

2. Clean bench – The most important device for cell culture is to control the flow of air to prevent contamination during cell culture, and to sterilize the space where cell culture is conducted using UV lamp so that the experiment can proceed cleanly.

If UV lamp is activated during cell culture, ultraviolet rays do not directly affect cells through the disk or media, but the components of the media may decompose or deteriorate, and if UV rays directly contact the cells after inhaling the media, DNA will be damaged and cells will die.
